Compass Academy is a public charter middle school serving grades six through eight in Southwest Denver. Compass will foster students' abilities to realize their unique strengths and talents, while mastering core academic skills. We use innovative approaches to student learning which includes project-based learning, technology-rich classrooms and learning expeditions which help get students out into the community. Compass also prides itself on our biliteracy program where students receive strong English language development support while simultaneously using and celebrating Spanish language and culture. Our school partners with City Year to utilize Student Success Coaches who provide students with extra support and mentorship. Through strong partnerships with community organizations and nonprofits, Compass is able to bring music, art, career training, life-skills and social activism into the students' school day. Finally, our school engages students in high school choice counseling by hosting high school fairs and visits. At Compass, we deeply believe in developing students to be learners and leaders, not only within the walls of our campus, but in high school, college and beyond.

Unified Improvement Planning was introduced in 2009 to streamline improvement planning components of state and federal accountability requirements. Based on the Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids (SB212-08), the primary purpose of improvement planning is to align efforts to: Ensure all students exit the K-12 education system ready for post-secondary education, and/or to be successful in the workforce, earning a living wage immediately upon graduation. The School Finder only contains one portion of the UIP, each school's Priority Performance Challenges. To access any school's complete UIP, you can visit: School and District UIPs
